Publishing Experience 1995–2000 Longman/Pearson Education
 
  • 1997-2000: Publisher/Pub.Manager, Pearson Education; main role:
  •  
    • the research, preparation, supervision and management of new publications for teachers and learners in Greece, as well as the entire Eastern Mediterranean region
    • partaking in the strategy development, the drawing up and implementation of a publishing plan for the region (Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Arab world, etc.)
    • the identification of appropriate authors, development of manuscripts and conceptualisation of suitable design for all new materials for Greece
    • managing the Longman (now Pearson Education) Hellas editorial and publishing team and being responsible for new books produced by the Greek publishing unit
    • developing and content-editing key titles
    • recruiting, training, managing and appraising an ELT publishing team
    • preparing profit studies, publication proposals and investment documentation for all new titles; managing financials and contractual agreements for my titles
    • commissioning, briefing and managing authors, designers, illustrators and all other professionals in the ELT publishing route
    • post-publication management of most of the Longman title list for the East.Med. region
    • training and liaising with staff in the sales and marketing departments, and running internal and commercial seminars, workshops and presentations

    • field research into all developments pertaining to ELT
    • extensive market research regarding ELT publications
    • specifying new publications and developing manuscripts through feedback to publishers/authors, piloting, author meetings, etc.
    • briefing (or helping to brief), scheduling, developing, content and/or copy-editing and otherwise informing most of the Longman publications of this period.
    • development of all local product or special editions, from specifications to high level editorial and production brief

    • training and liaising with the sales and marketing teams
    • liaison with educational organisations, authors, Ministry of Education, other state institutions, etc.

  • Reported on manuscripts and ran pilots for EFL publishers in Greece: Burlington, Longman.
  • Wrote and produced all in-house materials for the Tsetos School of Languages and Computing.

  • Studies include exhaustive study of a wide range of English and American literary texts as well as Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, with particular interest in EFL Teaching Theories, Didactics and Methodology. Wrote a number of academic papers, some of which published.
  • Concurrently, attended the Department of Greek Literature and Philosophy on campus and studied Law, Drama, Art History and Cinematography. Also worked with the Cambridge Examinations Syndicate, Salonika, the Linguistics Convention and assisted Prof. of Linguistics St.Efstathiadis.
  • Awarded 3 consecutive scholarships by the Greek National Foundation for Scholarships as Best Student; was offered the position of Research Assistant in Michigan State University, USA.
